Cherry Hill receives Smart Growth Award!

The Village of Cherry Hill was awarded the Smart Growth Award May 7, 2003 by the Boone County Smart Growth Coalition. The award reads as follows: 
 
The Village of Cherry Hill creates a community site within the larger City of Columbia. It is an innovative "mix use" area. A large community open green space is surrounded by attractive homes, some apartments and residential services, including doctor offices, a bakery and a restaurant. The residential lots are designed to be smaller and closer together, and have 'character'and differ from each other. Garages are in the back and porches in the front. Everything is within easy walking distance. The entire area promotes community and enhances the ability of residents to interact with each other. The structures are "built to last" and made of high quality materials and good workmanship.  
The Village of Cherry Hill promotes the close in use of land in the western part of a rapidly growing area. It makes wise use of a moderate amount of land. This helps to reduce sprawl. The configuration of the area also reduces public infrastructure needs and costs. The area is designed to minimize impervious surface reducing storm water runoff.
